As the expectations and requirements for CTE programs have risen in recent decades, CTE sequences must prepare students for careers in the 21st century and the new information and knowledge economy. At the same time, CTE programs must meet or exceed the academic expectations and standards required of all students in New York State. The final goal for CTE programs is to prepare students for college or career employment. CTE programs are no longer for non-college bound students. Instead, it is an alternative route to employment and further learning for students of New York City. CTE programs strive to offer an academically and technically rigorous and theme based curriculum, work-based learning, and employer engagement.
